Cat's claw (Uncaria tomentosa), known as uňa de gato in Spanish, is a large, woody vine native to the Amazon rainforest and other tropical areas of South and Central America. It belongs to the Rubiaceae (madder) family and earns its name from the distinctive curved thorns found along its stem that resemble the claws of a cat. It remains one of the most significant herbs in South American folk medicine, traditionally utilized to restore "flow" and balance to the body's internal systems.
